What is Scrapbooking?

Scrapbooking is quite a familiar term for most Americans and Europeans, however it is picking up popularity in India. It is an art of preserving memories in a unique and creative way. One can simply say that scrapbook records the story of your life with photos and words. Its the story behind the photos that sets a scrapbook apart from a simple photo album.

Traditionally, photos were preserved either in a photo album or a frame. But photos alone will have little or no meaning for your family or friends if you aren't around to narrate the story behind each scene. "Scrapbooking" is the only way to display pictures along with text that explains their significance. You could also express your style by decorating the pages by using patterned and textured paper for backgrounds, creative styles of text for titles and other form of embellishments.

Getting started in creating your own scrapbook can be more overwhelming than challenging. Just remember one thing that there is no right or wrong way to scrapbook. Your pages should simply reflect who you are and what is most important to you.

I'll briefly explain the different components of scrapbooking and will continue the details on each component in my following posts.

  1. Photographs
  2. Journaling
  3. Backgrounds
  4. Mats, frames and borders
  5. Embellishments
  6. Layouts
